Last Will and Testament
of
JOHN HALEY
November 5, 1754

In the Name of God Amen I John Haley of Kent County and Province of Maryland being very Sick and weak of Body but of Perfect and sound Disposing Mind and Memory praised be God for the same and knowing that it is appointed unto all Men once to Die so think proper to let get my affairs in order and therefore so make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament Hereby revoking and Disanulling all other wills by me -

Heretofore made Either in Word or Writing and first and principally I Comenmd my Soul into the Hand of God who gave it [will?] and my Body to the Ground to be buried in a Decent Manner at the Discretion of my Executor Hereafter named and as for those Wordly Goods wherewith it hath pleased God to Endow me

I give and Dispose therefore in Manner following - Viz

First my Will is that my Just Debts be punctually paid -

[Imprimus?} - I give and Bequeath unto my Loving Son William Haley my now Dwelling Plantation with all my Land. - - thereunto Belonging to him and his Heirs for Ever I also give unto my Said William one Negro Man Named Ned -

Item I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Morfit Wife of George Morfit one Negro Woman named Dinah.

Item I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Morfit Wife of Richard Morfit one Negro girl named Judy

Item I give and Bequeath unto my daughter Anne Wilson Wife of James Wilson one Negro girl named Peg.

Item I give and Bequeath unto my son John Haley one Negro girl named Amey -

Item I give and Bequeath unto my son Charles Haley one Negro boy named Abraham -

Item I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Rachele Haley one Negro girl named [Iale?]

Item I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Hannah Haley one Negro boy named Jo -

Item I give and Bequeath unto - Susanah Haley one Negro girl named Beck -

Item I give and Bequeath unto my nephew Pelle Twenty pounds to be paid out of my Estate according to Appraisment -

Item I give and Bequeath unto my Nephew Haley Pelle Twenty pounds to be paid as before Said, and furhter my Will is that after my just Debts and funeral Expences and the above Legacies be paid that all the Remaining part of my Estate be Equally Divided among my Nine Children namely William, Elizabeth Mary John Anne Charles Rachelle Hannah & Susannah only the Vallue of one Bed and furniture which Elizabeth has had and the Like which Mary has had is to Deducted out of their Share and

Lastly I do Constitute and appoint my Son William Haley and George Morfit my Sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament in Witnesf -

Whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and [fixt?] my Seal this fifth Day of November A Domini 1754.

Test Daniel Hulle, William Parker, John Wilson - On the back of the foregoing will was thus written Viz -
Kent County [fst?] on the 25th Day of January Anne Dom. 1755 Daniel Hulle William Parker and John Wilson the three Subscribing Witnefses to the within written Will of John Haley the Testator within Named came before me the Subscriber Deputy Commifsary of Kent County and the James Daniel being one of the people called Quakers on his Solemn Affirmation to him administered declared and the said William & John on their Oaths to them only administered on the Holy Evangels Depose and Declare that they formally Saw the Said Testator John Haley Sign and Seal the same within written Will and heard him publish and Declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament that at the time of his so Doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of Sound and Disposing Mind & Memory and that the Affirmants & Deponents subscribed their respective names as Witnefses to the same Will in the presence of the Said Testator & at his request affirmed & Sworn before [J W Calsen?] Dep. Comry
