REED
Reed died Dec. 4 at Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital.
He was born Aug. 4, 1935 in Dublin to Benjamin Alton Reed and Chelsea D. Black. He graduated from Dublin High School and the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated cum laude with a degree in English.
He served in the military and after his discharge, taught English in Dublin and Arizona. He quit teaching and went to Dallas to manage the first Steak and Ale opened by Norman Brinker. He later owned his own restuarant at Red Bird Mall in Dallas.
After selling the Dallas restuarant, he went to Germany to do research on a book he wrote and published. He returned to Dallas until his retirement from a Dallas firm as a computer programmer and in 1991 moved back to his family home in Dublin.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Surviviors include a brother, Dick Reed of Mineral Wells: an uncle, Jim Reed of Buffalo, Mo.; four aunts, Polly Ross of Ranger, Hazel Reed of Eastland, Verna Reed of Ft. Worth, and Merle Black of Dublin.
