MARTHA JANE WORRELL
( PHOTO)

Martha (Granny Reed") (6) (Mar. 3, 1869 - July 8, 1952) was born in Butler Co., AL, and died in Dublin, TX. Martha moved with her family to Texas in 1871 when she was about 2 years old.

Married: Aug. 28, 1889
Place: Camp San Saba, McCulloch Co., TX.
Spouse: Perry Richard "Dick" Reed (Apr. 15, 1866 - July 31, 1936) (OBIT)

Dick Reed, a son of Benjamin F. Reed and Jane Arrant Wolfe, ( PHOTO) was born in Camp San Saba, Tx. and died in Dublin, Tx.

They stayed in Camp San Saba at least until 1897 when their youngest child was born. In 1900 they were in the Hazeldale Community of Comache Co., Tx.) (CENSUS)
Shortly after that they moved to Dublin, Erath Co., Tx.) (OBIT)

Martha left the Methodist Church in 1913 and joined the Assembly of God Church, where she was very active. Family legend has it that she changed churches because she saw the Methodist minister entering the movie theater.

The 1937 Dublin phone book, located at the Dublin Hisorical Museum, has her listed as operating a Rooming House.

NOTE: I remember Granny's house as being large with a high front porch. Whenever I think of Granny, I picture a little frail lady in a rocking chair, dipping Garret's Snuff with a chewed up match stick and "waiting for Jesus to come for her".

Dick and Martha Reed had three children: (6) Lola Blanche, James Roy and Charles Wesley.PHOTO)

Dick and Martha are buried in the Old Dublin Cemetery.( PHOTO)
